Fall hair trends 2017 from Malkim Hair Salon in Guelph

Fall is just around the corner, and the new season offers a chance to hit the reset button on our hair! After months of sun-kissed highlights and beach waves, it’s time for a change. These are some of our favourite hair trends for fall 2017!

Laid-Back Waves

Say goodbye to mermaid curls! If you have hair on the longer side, embrace one of fall’s easiest trends with laid-back waves. They’re just as easy to style as they look, and a great way to get them is to let your hair air dry or embrace your natural wave. Or loosely wrap your hair around a one-inch curling iron to achieve this loose look!

Curly Bangs

Sometimes, having curly hair can seem like you’re not able to embrace certain hair trends. But not anymore! The ultimate cool-girl look is the curly bang, and it’s all about embracing your natural texture and putting down the straightener. They look great with round, short cuts and long shags alike.

The Shag

The shag has been around for a few seasons now, but we expect this rock’n’roll look to take off in a big way this fall. Anyone can rock this look – no matter what your natural hair texture is. The shag is making a comeback from the 70s and 80s, but the modern version is super chic. Think lots of layers and embracing your natural texture.

Deep Side Part

For those of us wanting a small hair update with big impact, enter the deep side part. You can easily give your current haircut an upgrade with this part, and it works for hair that’s styled down as well as updos. For an updo with this part, style your hair into a super chic low bun or ponytail and smooth your hair against your head for a sleek look.

Triangle Shapes

If you have thick, wavy hair that you’ve let outgrow its layers, you’re probably very familiar with this look. But the ultimate cool-girl haircut this season is embracing the triangle-shaped cut by leaving longer layers and lots of weight on the ends. This cut has a definite retro vibe to it and works best with air drying and very little styling.

Honey Blonde

The go-to colour of the season is a warm honey blonde that almost mimics the pale hues of rose gold. It’s a super flattering shade for medium skin tones, and gives you less contrast than a platinum blonde, but it’s a much more natural look. The best way to achieve a modern look with this colour is to pair it with a grown-out look with darker roots and a brushed-on technique that will help you avoid any straight lines.

Mid-Length Cuts

While mermaid-length hair may be reserved for the summer months, welcome fall with a cool, put-together mid-length cut. This haircut works best sitting right at the shoulders, or just at the collarbone. This style works well with layers and more blunt cuts, and even makes a perfect length for the shag!
