Love it or hate it, winter is far from over. While the days of summer hair damage are over, winter can present some other potentially damaging elements for your hair. With dry, cold weather comes dry, itchy hair and skin.
Luckily, it’s not hard to keep your hair looking and feeling great all season long!
Even if you’re not prone to dandruff during the rest of the year, many of us may start to see flakes on our scalps or in our hair. This is often caused by the dry winter air, and it can make your head itchier too. Natural remedies can actually help you fight a dry scalp! Try a couple of tablespoons of olive oil or coconut oil with a small amount of lemon juice as a natural and affordable scalp treatment. Warm the mixture up on the stove and leave it on your scalp for up to thirty minutes, then wash your hair as normal.
Control Frizzy Hair
Almost all of us have been victims to frizzy hair during the winter. Unless you bog down your hair with products, you’re likely to get frizzy hair as a result of the dry air and static. You can fight frizz easily with a vented hair brush, preferably with a combination or plastic and boar bristles. Use lukewarm water when washing your hair to keep more of the natural oils in your hair. Use a leave-in conditioner to really help your hair stay smooth.
Add Some Life to Your Hair
Dry, itchy scalps and frizzy hair aren’t the only problems your hair may face this winter. Many of us are familiar with the dull, lifeless look of our winter hair, but this is easy to combat. Try making your own hair mask at home with raw honey, and apply it to your whole head of hair. Cover your head with a towel or shower cap, leaving it for thirty minutes. Wash it off with lukewarm water to reveal moisturized, shiny hair!
Dry Your Hair Carefully
During the winter, the last thing you want to do is leave your house in the morning with a wet head of hair. Unfortunately, the winter doesn’t present the right conditions for letting your hair air dry most days, so it’s important that you dry your hair properly. Use your hair dryer on the cool setting to limit the damage, and never put your hair up when it’s damp.
Condition Your Hair Properly
Sometimes if we’re in a rush, we might skip the conditioner once in a while after we wash our hair. But during the winter, it’s essential that you’re feeding your hair with all of the moisture you can. Condition your hair after every wash, and be sure to pay close attention to the ends. Leave your conditioner on your hair for a few minutes to let your hair soak up the moisture before rinsing, and rinse with cool water.
As always, it’s important to keep your hair trimmed regularly to maintain hair health in the winter! Contact the talented team at Malkim Hair Shop to set up your next appointment.
